Since leaving HM Revenue & Customs as an Inspector of Taxes in 1987, I have gained twenty years experience in practice helping clients solve their tax problems. During this time I have worked for major firms in London and Manchester, including Smith & Williamson and PwC where I was a senior manager. More recently, I have been a tax consultant to CCH. I have written articles that have been published in Taxation and Tax Adviser and have lectured on tax investigations.
I handle tax disputes at all levels. It could be a local tax office enquiry into a small business or an investigation by Special Civil Investigations, the elite investigation unit of HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). I can also help you with PAYE/NIC enquiries, IR35/status dispute issues and the construction industry subcontractor regulations.
I am a specialist which, by definition, means that I cannot be an expert at everything. I have a wide network of contacts and if necessary I can refer you to the right person to help you.
For a private discussion about how I can resolve your tax investigation please contact me. The initial consultation will be free of charge. Wherever practicable I will try and agree a fixed fee with you so you will know in advance what I propose to do and how much it will cost you. Although I am based in North Lancashire, my clients are all over the country.
Breaking News
Offshore Disclosure. What next?
Those who took advantage of the Offshore Disclosure Facility (ODF) announced by HMRC on 17 April had until 26 November to submit their disclosures together with payment to HMRC.
Rumours have been circulating that HMRC has been issuing letters at the rate of 5,000 a week starting investigations into those who did not sign up to the "ODF". Other rumours are that no letters have gone out because of a technical hitch.
Whatever the truth, HMRC is under pressure to produce results from the vast amounts of information it has forced from banks in the UK with overseas connections. Inspectors of Taxes have not been sitting idle and decisions will already have been made as to which businesses and individuals will be investigated.
If you, your client or your business is targeted by HMRC you will need to ensure that you appoint an adviser with the relevant skill and experience to bring the investigation to a speedy and fair conclusion.
